Abstract

English is an International language, in order to understand English there are four skills in teaching English; Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Reading is one of the important skills, because in reading we can find information about what happened in this world through reading. Moreover, reading also includes the language component such as vocabulary and grammar. According to Addison (1996) Reading is one of the important skills of teaching. English is one of the most important academic skills. The reading ability also plays an important role in teaching and learning in education world. . In this study, the researcher used a quasi-experimental designed study with pre-test and post-test design. For this study the researcher needs six meetings for each class. (One meeting for pre-test, four meeting for the treatment, and one meeting for post-test) the control group and treatment group were given the same pre-test and post-test. The experimental group was taught using KWL technique and the control group was taught using translation. Based on the analysis, it is known that the significant p-value is 0.011<0.05. That means that H⁰ is rejected and H₁ is accepted, and therefore, it was concluded that there is a significant difference between KWL and Translation technique. The result showed that students can improve their score better using KWL technique. Keywords : KWL, Translation
