Abstract

Penelitian ini mencari motif followers mengikuti akun Instagram WWF Indonesia @wwf_id. WWF adalah singkatan dari “World Wildlife Fund for Nature”, WWF merupakan salah satu lembaga konservasi terbesar dan sangat berpengalaman di dunia. WWF mulai bekerja di Indonesia pada tahun 1962, WWF Indonesia sendiri menggunakan Instagram sebagai salah satu sarana mereka untuk menyampaikan pesan perlindungan alam kepada masyarakat luas khususnya followers akun mereka. Anita Whiting dan David Williams menyebutkan terdapat sepuluh motif masyarakat menggunakan sosial media. Motif tersebut adalah: (1) Social interaction, (2) Information seeking, (3) Pass time, (4) Entertainment, (5) Relaxation, (6)Expression of opinions, (7) Communicatory utility, (8) Convenience utility, (9) Information sharing, dan (10) Surveillance/knowledge about others. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa motif tertinggi followers akun @wwf_id merupakan motif Convenience utility, sementara motif terendah merupakan motif Relaxation.
