Abstract

Teaching English for young learners cannot be separated from the use of textbook, therefore, the quality of textbook need to be evaluated before it is used. The selection of a course book is one of the most important decisions a teacher will make in shaping the content and nature of teaching and learning. It involves matching the material against the context in which it is going to be used, following the aims of the teaching program, as well as fitting the personal methodology of the teacher and of course to fit with the characteristics of young leaners. As there are few of evaluation on the course book for young learner and to make it worth contributing for knowledge, the reasercher is conducting Descriptive-Qualitative study which is focusing on evaluating one book entitled Let’s Talk in English. It analyzes whether the coursebook meets the criteria of a good course book for young learners and whether the themes in the coursebook in line with those recommended in the 2013 Curriculum. The result shows that the course book is suitable for teaching English for young learners since the materials is suitable with the need of young learners. However, there are some criteria that should be improved especially about the picture and illustration. In terms of themes, the course book only provides four out of nine themes recommended in Curriculum 2013.
