Abstract

The general objective of this research is to explain about managing human resources at a firm. Whereas the specific objectives of this research are to predict the future employee's productivity of 'x' tyre company listed on The Surabaya Stock Exchange and to explain the human resource strategy that can be used to manage people as a competitive advantage. This research was supported by a quantitative analysis. The first analysis method was a simple linear regression analysis that was used to predict the future sales based on past data. The second method was a partial productivity measure that was used to estimate the future employee's productivity. This research used secondary data which were taken from net, annual report of 'x' tyre company, financial report and independent's auditor report in the years of 1985 until 2000. The result of this research shows that employee's productivity of 'x' tyre company for the future years will decrease, and then will increase. Based on this result, 'x' tyre company should adopt human resource strategy that can increase productivity or performance, because competitive advantage depends on superiority of human resources ability. Managing human resources effectively will fulfill the need of the company to achieve a competitive advantage.
