Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of transformational leadership and motivation towards employee's work performance, which mediated by work satisfaction and organizational commitment. Transformation leadership and motivation expected to increase employee's work performance. And so the work satisfaction and organizational commitment will strengthens this influence. The population of this study is the employee of PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia in Surabaya branch. Using 208 employees in population as a sample, tested by Structural Equation Model (SEM). Transformational leadership measuder by four indicator which introduced by Bass and Avolio (1994:34). Motivation based on Maslow Hierarchy. Work satisfaction based on Porter's theory. Organizational commitment based on Sharafat Khan (1997), with indication taken from Bernardin and Russel (1993). All data of the respective measurement items are tested with reliability and validity test based on Alpha Cronbach to the internal consistence by using SPSS program version 18. To analyze the structural equation model, the study uses AMOS. The model of relationship between the variables studied shown that the transformational leadership and motivation has a significant effect on employee's performance with positive signs. Work satisfaction and organizational commitment have significant effect and mediate the effect of transformational leadership on employee's performance of PT SEID Surabaya. Based on the result of this study, Director and Management SEID Surabaya suggested to increase employee's work satisfaction to optimized their ability to increase higher work performance. Besides, to increase organizational commitment, management should communicate the vision, and involved them to the company's goal, because "sold" the goal value or give the opportunity to employees.
