Abstract

Literature is a means of the moral education to the readers since it keeps the message to the readers to apply good things. The classic judgement considers that a good literary work is the one that brings the readers to know the moral value applied in the community. The characteristic of literature also demands the readers to see the reality although it is not in the same way as the moral. Literature is also one of the verbal arts that uses language as the tool to tell the author’s thoughts. A poem is one the literature works where the choosing of the proper language is very important to the poets since the words represent certain meaning. Through the use of beautiful expressions, the poet guides the readers to understand what the poets try to tell the story, and to state hidden meanings that are contained in some expressions of a poem. The Bible has been known so far as a Holy Book for Christians. Besides The Bible contains The Prophets' stories about the utterances of God, it is also a Book of great poems such as The Book of Psalms, The Book of Job, The Book of Proverbs, The Book of Ecclesiastes, and The Song of Songs. The writer chooses The Song of Songs because he finds it greatly beautiful and enduring. Therefore, he wants to study deeply the figures of speech and the imagery aspects of that he could find the meaning and the moral values of the poems. The Song of Songs is a cluster of songs that tell about love; love between a man and a woman. Since there are 6 songs in The Song of Songs, the writer limits himself to analyse only two songs.: The First Song and The Sixth Song. The first Song tells that love begins in the first sight and commonly firsts sight relates to the physical appearance. In this poem, the readers could find the couple praising each other the beauty and the handsomeness. In this song., the author uses imagery, simile, metaphor, symbol, personification, and apostrophe. The Sixth Songs could be said as the end of the poems. It describes love Itself. Love is a gift from God; it could not be bought or exchanged by one's wealth. Love is the strongest thing among the hottest fire and the most magnificent flood. No one could avoid it. In this song, the author uses imagery, simile, symbol, metaphor, and overstatement. So, reading and studying the Song of Songs are suggested here to know that love is a beautiful, sacred, and mysterious thing, as it could not be controlled by the human. That is why love should be treated sacredly.
