Abstract

This study focuses on constructing the materials to teach reading comprehension to Architecture students because it is still difficult to find materials which can match their need. The objective of this study is that the materials which match with the need of Arctechture students can be constructed. The writer hopes that the materials can be applied by English teachers who teach reading comprehension for Architecture students. The writer follows the systems approach model stated by Walter Dick and Lou Carey in constructing the materials. In this approach, there are ten steps as follows: need analysis and materials evaluation, identifying GIO, implementing a teaching analysis, identifying students behaviors and characteristics, writing SIO, developing criterion-referenced tests, developing a teaching strategy, developing teaching materials, designing and implementing formative evaluations, revising teaching materials. These materials consists of a teacher’s manual, a teaching manual, 16 passages, and exercises consisting of two parts: reading comprehension and grammar or vocabulary in turn.
