Abstract

Today English is very important for all over the world. English is used for a lot of purposes; education, business, tourism, entertainment, and many others, but mostly English is used for education purpose. Many countries have applied English for this reason, one of them is Indonesia. English in Indonesia which is used for education purpose has been taught from Elementary School, Junior High School, Senior High School and even University levels. Teaching English in University is more complex than the other levels. There are many subjects offered for the English Department students such as, Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing, Literature, CCU and many others. By learning these subjects, it is possible for the English Department students to improve and develop their skills in English. Among all the English subjects, some of them are considered interesting for the students and some of them are not. Literature is one of the subjects which is considered uninteresting for the students. They think if they learn Literature they will meet unique and new vocabularies and unusual grammatical patterns, so it is possible for them to put Literature become a boring subjects. Though this thesis, the writer will suggest some stages that it is possible to be useful for the English Department teachers especially who teach Literature. The writer hopes by applying these stages, the English Department teachers can make the students eager to learn Literature so that they won’t assume that Literature is a boring subject.
