Abstract

Writing is one of the English language skills which is as important as the other skills. Most of the students usually have many problems in getting ideas and arranging the ideas into logical sentences. The students always waste a lot of time to get the ideas, because they nearly do not have any ideas, so they cannot express and write them down. If they already get the ideas, they cannot arrange the ideas in the composition in good order. Therefore most of them write a composition with ideas so disorganized that it cannot be understood easily by the readers. Besides that the teachers do not use media in teaching writing. It makes the students bored and not interested in writing. To overcome those problems, the writer will help the students to make a composition more easily. The writer suggests to teach writing using controlled composition and media as an aid. The media suggested by the writer is picture series . By using this aid, the students’ problems can be reduced because picture series can make their interest arise. The students’ interest will arise because picture series and all of the guidance, like questions and options of the answers, can make them get the ideas and understand the story. Therefore the composition will be organized in a good order and can be understood by the readers. The aim of this study is to make it easier for the students to get ideas and arrange the ideas in an organized composition. Besides, it can motivate them to write more willingly because series of pictures can make them especially first year students of senior high school interested in and not bored with writing. The writer uses a library research in doing her study. She gets most of the information from books, magazines and articles at the school library to support her study. Finally, the writer expect that this study will give some contribution to the teaching of writing to the first year students of senior high school.
