Abstract

Background of the study We all know that language is a very important tool in our civilized life. It can not be separated from human life, because without language people can not communicate to each other smoothly. We can be sure that no two speakers have the same language as no two speakers have the same experience of language. Boys and girls will speak differently when they talk to each other, especially if they talk to each other in the same sex that is boys to boys and girls to girls. The statement of the problems In line with the background of the study, this research intended to answer the following questions: 1. What language is used by 5 to 6 year boys and girls? 2. Who speaks more language, boys or girls? Why? The objective of the study This study is conducted to find out: 1. The 5 to 6 year old boys' and girls' language. 2. Boys or girls speak more language. The reasons why they speak different languages. The research methodology This study is a quantitative study. It describes the boys and girls language and who speak more language when they talk to each other in the same sex. The conclusion The writer finds out that 5 to 6 year old boys and girls use English, Indonesian, Javanese, and Betawi. The girls use Chinese and the boys do not. The girls speak more languages, they use five languages that are English, Indonesian, Betawi, Javanese and Chinese. And the boys use four languages that are English, Indonesian, Betawi and Javanese. Among the five languages it is found that Indonesian is spoken more by they children. It is because they must speak Indonesian in their school and Indonesian is the first language in Indonesia. They use different languages in order to maintain the smoothness of the conversation, they have different experience in acquiring the languages, the lack of vocabulary in one language, and sex differences.
