Abstract

Banking is an capital intensive and high risk business industry. Optimal working capital very essential to avoid banks from financial crisis meltdown. The purpose of the study to compare the management performance from liquidity and working capital turnover among private and public banks in Indonesia. The variable in this research are Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Cash Ratio and Working Capital Turnover Ratio. This study used financial data bank which go public and audited from 2007 to 2011 as sample. Based on sample criteria Bank Mandiri, BNI and BRI from public bank. BCA, CIMB Niaga and Danamon suited with the criteria from private bank. Hypothesis testing in this research used nonparametric statistical tool. Analysis nonparametric test used to test analysis of variance (One Way ANOVA). The results of the statistical test obtained liquidity capability aspects from public bank and private bank has not much different. Cash Ratio based on average public bank better than private bank. Meanwhile, from the Bank’s loan to deposit ratio private bank better than public bank. Proxy financial ratios used to analyze the comparative performance of public banks provide evidence that is not always superior than private banks and vice versa. From 2007-2011 banking profit growth reaches more than 5%. The increased profit attributed in credit quality and increasing fee-based transactions is carried out from private banks and public banks through funds or credit transactions. It shows that public banks and the private bank has made capital efficiency.
