One of strategy is by introducing English language since early childhood educational level. In Indonesia, teaching young learners with English as a medium of instruction has been a great challenge to all of teachers. “Rainbow” is one of a school in Surabaya, Indonesia has been using English as their medium of instruction. In Rainbow pre-school, the researcher noticed that the learning process was planned by the teachers from adapting the theories of play with the school curriculum or International Baccalaureate. The researcher was intended to find the reasons for the adaptation process. And one of that was to eliminate a negative thought that play means “aimless activity”. Through this research, the researcher would like to describe about how do the teachers at Rainbow pre-school adapted Play-based Learning to support the young learners English language development and how do the practices of the adapted Play-based Learning could influence young learners English language development. By this research was visible that play as the proper learning approaches for young learners with English as a medium of instruction.
