Abstract
The aim of this research is to obtain the oplimum mixture proportions of Vivapur® Type 101 (microcrystalline cellulose) and lactose monohydrate on ibuprofen tablets made by wet granulation method. Vivapur® type 101 and lactose monohydrate when combined may have a synergistic effect that can improve the physical properties of tablets influencing effect on the quality of tablets. Optimization design used in this study was the simplex lattice design, using Design Expert® program. Responses used in determining the optimum formula were tablet hardness, tablet friability, disintegration time of tablets, and the percent of drug released within 30 minutes. The results showed that the polynomial equation for hardness was Y = 6.9633 XA + 4.5567 XB + 6.1868 XAB; friability was Y = 0.4956 XA + 0.6071 XB - 0.2198 XAB; tablet disintegration time was Y = 1 XA + 17.337 Xn + 14.02 XAB; and percent of drug released within 30 minutes was Y = 96.38 XA + 79.49 Xn - 23.50 XAB· Concluded that Vivapur® type 101 and lactose monohydrate was the dominant affecting factor on tablet hardness, tablet friability, disintegration time of tablets, and the percent of drug released within 30 minutes.
