Abstract

With the unstoppable advancement of technology, every aspect in human life also changes and one of them is education. The way of the learning itself has changed from teacher-centered and face-to-face class to students-centered and online class. The idea of combining technology and classroom learning has brought many benefits as well as challenges for the students. In English Education Study Program of Widya Mandala Catholic University, an LMS (Learning Management System) known as well as Bella has been designed and used to facilitate students in online class learning, one of the classes is writing class. This study investigates how the features of Bella and the use of Bella can be beneficial or challenging for the students. The respondents of this study are 33 students who used Bella in their writing class. The result shows that students gain significant benefits in terms of flexibility, the process of submission, and structural as well as insightful learning during writing class. On the other hand, the responses of the respondents also show challenge in the use of Bella as the facility of their writing class such as, internet connection, distraction to non-related website, and ineffective features in Bella. Moreover, the researcher found that only 1 feature – forum – is used during the writing class although there are Wiki and Mindmap provided to be used.
