Abstract

English is taught as a foreign language in Indonesia. In some universities, English is one of the subjects specifically learned by the undergraduate students. As the study program is also education-oriented, the aim of the English Language Education Study Program is to provide quality learning to produce competent and professional English teachers who can create innovative findings and ideas to solve English language education problems in the society. Group work is used by many college professors and teachers everywhere because it is an effective method that can help improve the students’ ability to think critically. The aim of this research is to find out the students’ reflection on the implementation of Group Work in TEFL B class. This study used a descriptive design that used Explanatory Sequential Mixed Method to find out the students’ reflection of innovative group work in TEFL B class. The respondents were the students of 2019 batch of English Department of Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya who have undergone TEFL B class. The data was taken with questionnaire and interview. The researcher concludes that the students perceived the implementation of innovative group work positively. The result showed that innovative group work can enhance more attention of the lecturer. Furthermore, Group work implemented in class also helped the students understand more about the lesson, increase social skills, and develop the talent of leadership
