Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the major components of a language. It needs to be given much attention in order to make the teaching learning process more effective and efficient. This makes the writer wants to find out whether teaching English through songs improves the students’ mastery of vocabulary compared to those taught English through a traditional memorizing technique. This study is based on the theories, which cover the nature of vocabulary, the importance of vocabulary, the nature of vocabulary learning especially related to songs. In this study the writer used a quasi-experimental design. The data was collected after the writer conducted the treatments. He further gave the post-test to both from classes. Based on the calculation of the post-test means, the writer finds out that there is a significance difference between the vocabulary achievement of students taught using songs and those taught through a traditional memorizing technique.
