Abstract
Sodium alginat adalah polimer lurus tak bercabang dengan rumus molekul (C6H7NaO6)n, berwarna putih kekuningan, berbentuk tepung atau granular, tidak cepat larut dalam air dan membentuk larutan yang sangat kental. Kegunaan sodium alginat di bidang industri antara lain sebagai stabilizer, thickener, gelling agent dan emulsifier. Proses produksi sodium alginat dimulai dengan persiapan bahan baku, proses utama yang terdiri dari proses ekstraksi, proses pre-treatment, dan proses konversi sehingga menjadi produk yang siap untuk dikemas dan dipasarkan. Perencanaan Operasi Kapasitas produksi : tahun : 600 ton sodium alginat/tahun Metode operasi : Batch, 300 hari kerja Bahan dan jumlah baku utama : Rumput laut Sargassum sp.
