Abstract

This study is about an observational study of English grammar acquisition by the intermediate Students with the population of 7 students at Flory English Centre. This study consists of 72 pages. The writer chose this study because there were not many studies about foreign language acquisition. Grammar has been the main point of the English classroom. So far, there were not many studies on how the English grammatical rules were acquired. This study is aimed to know to what extent the intermediate students at Flory English Centre acquire the English grammar through their oral performance in the classroom. The writer, Listiani, used an observational study to collect the data. The writer used a recorder made by SONY for the recordings. The data were collected from several recordings on the students’ speech during the lessons. The writer transcribed all of the data, then she analyzed and made the conclusions from the analyses. After the writer analyzed the data, the writer made the interpretation of the data. The writer summarized that the intermediate students have acquired some grammatical rules. The writer noted that the intermediate students have acquired the word orders, the tense sequences, the sentence types, word classes such as nouns, pronouns, adjectives and prepositions, phrases, and clauses many others that would be explained in chapter four. Hopefully, this study would contribute a further study of foreign language acquisition. The writer hoped that this study can help the other students to know more about English grammar acquisition.
