Abstract

Since the 1994 English Syllabus was put into practice, there have been a lot of English textbooks written based upon it. One or such English textbooks is entitled "English for the Senior High School" by Sri Lono Widodo, BA, et al. This study is to find out whether these books particularly Book 1A, really reflects the implementation of the 1994 English Syllabus. Accordingly, it takes hold of the theories of Teaching English Communicatively the 1994 English Syllabus and the Development of Instruction Materials. To analyze the book, this study uses the Content Analysis Method. It makes use of the book "English for the Senior High School, Book lA as the source of the data and a blue print covering the criteria for judging the hook according to the 1994 English Syllabus as the instrument. The result of the study shows that the hook has met most of the criteria stated in the 1994 English Syllabus. At the end, the study besides provides conclusion, it also puts forward some suggestions for language teaching, teachers and further studies.
