Abstract

To help the students to be a proffesional teacher to-be, English Department of Faculty TeacherTraining and Education(FTTE) of Widya Mandala Chatolic University Surabaya (WMCUS) provides the students as the teachers-to-be a training program, named is Micro Teaching. This program is a compulsory subject that has to be taken before the students join Teaching Practice program. It is believed that individual’s perception on something influences how he or she copes with something. Based on this view, the writer deaded to conduct a study on the students perception on Micro Teaching course. As a result, the writer has built one research question; What are the students’ perception on Micro Teaching course?. The research was of a descriptive qualitative research. In this study, the writer used questionnaire with 40 items of open and closed-ended question, and semi-structured interview to gather the data. The participants of this study were 33 students of academic year 2012/2013 who had joined and passed Micro Teaching course. The result of this study found that the students had positive perception on Micro Teaching course. The students had good perception on every aspects of Micro Teaching course, such as the syllabus of Micro Teaching,teaching-learning materials, reflective feedback section, classroom condition, teaching skills, and lecturer’s guidance. This study found that the students had negative perception on the credit of Micro Teaching course. They suggested that the credit course of Micro Teaching was not enough. They thought that the credit course of Micro Teaching course should be added, from two into three,becoming three credit course. They thought that they need more time sharing in Micro Teaching class so that they could get more knowledges about Micro Teaching and learn how to teach well before they went teaching practice course.
